What happened suddenly regarding UP teacher recruitment?
In fact, in August 2025, Basic Education Officer (BSA), Deoria had canceled the appointment of Assistant Teacher Garima Singh. BSA officer said that the documents of petitioner Garima are fake. Garima Singh had challenged the dismissal by BSA Deoria in Allahabad Court, which proved to be costly for her. In her petition, Garima had argued that she had served for 15 years (since July 2010) without any complaint and the documents were checked at the time of recruitment. BSA’s lawyer Ashish Kumar Nagvanshi told the court that Garima has been dismissed after investigation by the competent authority and STF. Investigation revealed that the educational certificate and residence certificate of Garima, an assistant teacher for 15 years, are fake, they actually belong to someone else, Garima Singh.
Court considered recruitment as corruption
The High Court has considered the recruitment of petitioner Garima Singh as a part of corruption. The single bench of Justice Manju Rani Chauhan, after hearing both the sides, said that when fraud has been proved, then investigation cannot be demanded. Making scathing remarks, Justice Manju Rani Chauhan said, ‘This Court has repeatedly observed a worrying pattern where a large number of assistant teachers have obtained appointments on the basis of forged certificates and forged documents. Such people remain in service for years due to the connivance or laxity of the management of the institute and in many cases the basic education officers concerned.
Order to investigate all assistant teachers within 6 months
The court rejected the petition of Garima Singh and ordered investigation of all the assistant teachers of the state. The court issued a mandamus to conduct a comprehensive investigation of the documents of the teachers and directed the Principal Secretary of the Basic Education Department to complete the entire process within 6 months. The court said that despite issuing repeated instructions, the responsible officers have failed to take appropriate action on time against such illegal appointments. This laxity of the officials not only promotes fraud but also causes serious harm to the future of the students.
Salary will be recovered with cancellation of appointment
Now the Uttar Pradesh government will have to appoint all the assistant teachers of the state within 6 months and conduct time bound investigation. During the investigation, the appointment of teachers whose recruitment is found to be fake will be canceled immediately. Apart from this, the salary for the entire period will also be recovered from them. Also, the court has asked to take strict action by identifying such officers, due to whose connivance or negligence such fraud is taking place in teacher recruitment.
