Upi Payments: Transactions worth ₹230 Lakh Crore in a year through UPI, FY 2026 Figures Released – Upi Transactions Worth ₹230 Lakh Crore In A Year, Fy 2026 Figures Released

The government told the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that domestic transactions worth a record ₹230 lakh crore have been recorded through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) till December in the current financial year 2025-26. This figure reflects the rapidly increasing use of UPI and India’s strengthening role in digital payments.

Total transaction value in FY 2023 stood at Rs 230 crore

In response to supplementary questions during Question Hour, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that the value of transactions through UPI is increasing rapidly. He said that while the total transaction value was ₹139 lakh crore in 2022-23, it has increased to ₹230 lakh crore by December in 2025-26.

UPI is being used in eight countries

The Minister also informed that UPI is now expanding beyond India and is being used in eight countries with currency conversion and compliance with local laws. In a written reply in Parliament, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that UPI is currently operational in Bhutan, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Qatar, Singapore, Sri Lanka and UAE. He said that the government, Reserve Bank of India and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) are together taking several steps for the international expansion of UPI.

These initiatives include operationalizing UPI linkage with faster payment systems of partner countries to facilitate cross-border person-to-person (P2P) remittances. Apart from this, work is also being done to enable person-to-merchant (P2M) payments through travel-based corridors.

UPI’s share in total global retail payments transactions is 49%

The Finance Minister said that in the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s June 2025 report ‘Growing Retail Digital Payments (The Value of Interoperability)’, UPI has been considered the world’s largest retail fast-payment system in terms of transaction numbers. According to the ACI Worldwide Report 2024, UPI’s share in the total transactions of global real-time retail payments is about 49%.
