Agricultural Growth: Gross value added of agricultural sector increased by 10.4%, record increase of 7.65% in food production – India Agriculture Gva Grows 10.4% In 2024-25: Government Focuses On Farmer Income And Sustainable Growth

The gross value added (GVA) growth of agriculture and allied sectors in India was recorded at 10.4 percent in 2024-25. With this, the total food grain production reached 3,577.32 lakh metric tonnes (LMT), which is 7.65% more than in 2023-24. State Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ramnath Thakur told the Lok Sabha that the government is constantly studying the factors affecting agricultural development such as farmer income, production cost, irrigation, market access and climate change.

The main goal of the government’s strategy is to increase the income of farmers and develop the agriculture sector sustainably. These include:


  • increase in crop production

  • reduction in production costs

  • Providing better prices to farmers

  • Agricultural diversification and post-harvest value addition

  • climate change friendly farming

Budget made Rs 1,27,290.16 crore


The minister also informed that the budget of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has increased from Rs 21,933.50 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 1,27,290.16 crore in 2025-26. Also, a minimum 50% profit guarantee in MSP has been implemented for all mandatory Kharif, Rabi and other commercial crops.

The government has implemented policies, reforms, schemes and development programs from time to time to enhance the welfare and income of farmers. These plans include:


  • Crop Insurance and Income Support

  • Irrigation and Agricultural Infrastructure

  • organic and natural farming

  • Farmer Groups and Digital Agriculture

  • Crop purchase at minimum support price

These initiatives will help in increasing the income of farmers as well as ensuring sustainable and overall growth of the agriculture sector.
