Academic and research options after UGC NET

Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)

If you want to go into academics and research after UGC NET, then Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) is the best option. If your cut-off matches with JRF cut-off then you can become Junior Research Fellow. Along with PhD, you can get a monthly stipend of around Rs 37000, earlier it was Rs 31000. This financial assistance can be of great help in PhD or other research.

Senior Research Fellowship (SRF)

After JRF, there is a chance to get Senior Research Fellowship. After two years of JRF, the government gives up to Rs 42,000 per month to Senior Research Fellows for the next three years. However, before 2023 this amount was Rs 35000.

Contingency Grant

Apart from JRF and SRF, research candidates also get the opportunity to get contingency grant. Every year, Junior Fellows of Humanities and Social Sciences get Rs 10000 and Senior Fellows get Rs 20500. Whereas Science Junior Fellows get Rs 12000 and Senior Scholars get Rs 25000 annually.

Where do you get jobs after UGC NET?

Teaching Jobs

If you have qualified UGC NET then you can get the job of Assistant Professor or Lecturer in universities and colleges. Good salaries are available in both government and private higher educational institutions. Under the 7th Pay Commission, the starting salary of Assistant Professor in government colleges is Rs 57000, which can go up to Rs 1 lakh. Whereas in private colleges, the salary of Assistant Professor ranges from Rs 40,000 to Rs 1 lakh. However, it also depends on the city and college.

Research Program Jobs

After NET, you can get a good paying job for research program. You can apply for programs related to science, agriculture, medical or defense resources in CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DRDO.

public sector jobs

Vacancy is given for UGC NET qualified candidates in government companies like ONGC, NTPC, IOCL, BHEL. After passing UGC NET, keep an eye on the official websites of these companies. Apart from this, UGC NET pass candidates are also given preference in many private companies.
