Weather Forecast: Monsoon has become active in full swing across the country. Amid continuous rains from Delhi to Mumbai, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rains and severe thunderstorms in 15 states of the country for the next 10 hours. Wind gusts of up to 70 km/h and lightning are feared in many parts of the country during this period. The Meteorological Department has specially appealed to the people not to venture out unnecessarily and to be vigilant.

High alert issued for these 15 states

States for which the Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain and thunderstorm in the next few hours include: Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Kerala.

Aura burst in Gujarat: Somewhere ‘red alert’, some where flood situation

As the South-West Monsoon becomes very active in Gujarat, the next 24 hours are indicated to be extremely critical. Heavy rain is falling in many areas of Saurashtra and South Gujarat. The Meteorological Department has declared a ‘Red Alert’, expressing the fear of heavy to very heavy rains in some parts of the state. Local administrations have stepped up preparations for rescue operations following fears of flooding, inundation and disruption of transport and essential services in low-lying areas.

Stormy rains in Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh (UP).

Capital Delhi and its surrounding areas are on alert for heavy rains on July 8. Delhi’s maximum temperature is expected to be 33°C and minimum temperature is 25°C today. Thunderstorms will continue on July 9 and 10, with temperatures reaching 33°C and 34°C, respectively. From July 11, the intensity of rain will decrease in Delhi.

On the other hand, heavy rain is forecast in Uttar Pradesh districts including Lucknow, Etawah, Varanasi, Kanpur, Muzaffarnagar and Banda. Temperatures may drop below normal following the possibility of very heavy rainfall at isolated places in western UP.

Wind speed of 70 km/h will blow in Bihar and Rajasthan

Several districts of Bihar, including Patna, Munger, Bhagalpur, Gaya and Muzaffarpur, are on alert for rain along with thunderstorm. Wind gust of 70 km/h is expected here. Maximum temperature in Patna will be 33°C and minimum temperature will be 28°C.

Rajasthan’s districts like Jaipur, Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer and Jodhpur are likely to receive heavy rains on July 8 and 9. Monsoon will remain active over East Rajasthan for the next 4 to 5 days, though there will be a slight reduction in rainfall intensity from July 10 onwards.

Alert status in Maharashtra and West Bengal

Many districts of Maharashtra are facing waterlogging due to heavy rains. ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for Mumbai and ‘Orange Alert’ for Thane, Palghar and Nashik. The intensity of rain will reduce in Maharashtra from tomorrow.

West Bengal’s districts including Kolkata, Darjeeling and Alipurduar are on ‘Yellow Alert’ for heavy rain. Major rivers like Teesta, Torsa and Jaldhaka are likely to cross the danger level, posing a major risk of flooding and crop damage in low-lying areas.
