Balochistan Blast: Once again, the news of a major terrorist attack is coming from the restive province of Balochistan in Pakistan. Banned separatist outfit Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has officially claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on a Pakistani Coast Guard camp at Panwan in Jiwani area of Gwadar. According to a report by local media outlet The Balochistan Post, the BLA claimed that more than 30 Pakistani army personnel were killed and dozens of soldiers were seriously injured in the fierce attack.
The camp was blown up with a truck full of explosives
According to details received, this high-profile and high-risk operation was carried out by BLA’s elite suicide squad ‘Majid Brigade’ on Friday evening. At approximately 6:32 pm local time, a suicide bomber identified as Ataullah Baloch alias Ajmal rammed a Mazda truck packed with explosives into a high-security Pakistani Coast Guard camp. As soon as the truck entered, there was a big blast, the sound of which was heard far and wide. BLA spokesperson Ziand Baloch issued a statement claiming that the entire fortified military camp was completely reduced to rubble due to the massive explosion.
Video footage released
A 43-second video clip of the attack has also been released on social media by BLA’s media arm, Haqqal. In the video, it can be clearly seen that a suspicious truck enters the military compound followed by a massive explosion. The footage shared by the channel showed that the main structure and infrastructure of the army base was destroyed due to the explosion.
Face-to-face armed attack by ‘Fateh Squad’ after the blast
After the truck blast damaged the camp, armed fighters of the BLA’s second tactical wing ‘Fateh Squad’ launched a ground attack on the devastated camp from all sides. According to the organization, there was a prolonged face-to-face (firefight) between the armed terrorists of Fateh Squad and the Pakistani Coast Guard personnel who remained in the camp. It is claimed that most of the soldiers were killed in this joint operation.
The BLA spokesperson added that many people were still trapped under the debris and the death toll of the Pakistani army could rise further as the condition of the injured was critical. The separatist outfit has issued a clear warning that its armed campaign targeting Pakistani security forces will continue in earnest until it achieves its ultimate goal—the complete independence of Balochistan.
