Jamjodhpur: Jamjodhpur of Jamnagar district is currently seeing the wildest form of nature. This evening, the entire taluk has become water-logged with more than 6 inches of rain in a short span of just 4 hours. Roads have turned into rivers and life has come to a standstill. A warning message has been issued due to heavy inflow of water in Umiyasagar reservoir near Jamjodhpur taluka following heavy rains.
The alarming condition of Umiasagar Dam
Due to heavy rains, immediate measures have been taken by the system to increase the water income in Umiasagar Dam. At 7:15 pm, 5 gates of the dam have been opened up to 1.5 meters. A red alert has been issued for low-lying areas like Sidsar, Hariyasan, Charelia and Rabarika villages as the dam water level reaches 69.5 meters.
Apart from this, a special warning message has also been issued for the people of Charelia, Kharachiya, Rajapara and Rabarika villages.
The full water level of the dam is 71.05 m. The dam is currently 69.5 meters full. The inflow and outflow of water into the dam is currently 14,546 cusecs, according to the list of Rajkot Flood Control Cell.
The video of the rickshaw being stretched went viral
The main market area of the city has been flooded due to sudden rains. The flow of water was so rushing and desperate that a driverless rickshaw parked in the market area got swept away in the current. Even the heavy vehicle was straining like a paper boat in the water.
A local captured a video of this six-wheeled rickshaw in his mobile phone, which is now going viral on social media. By watching this viral video, people are estimating the strength of the rain flow.
Alert for low lying areas
Several low-lying areas, societies and major roads in Jamjodhpur have been flooded with heavy rains that fell in just a matter of hours. Traffic has been completely disrupted as the roads are waterlogged. Flooding in major markets and low-lying societies has increased the woes of people. The system has started the operation of evacuating the affected people to a safe place.
