3. Choosing the wrong college

One of the conditions of PGWP is that it is issued only when the student has enrolled in a ‘Designated Learning Institution’ (DLI) has obtained a degree from. DLI are those universities-colleges which are allowed to admit foreign students. But this does not mean at all that you will get PGWP after studying from DLI. The reason for this is that in DLI itself, you will have to study the course on whose degree you get PGWP. Please check this before admission. (Photo- Freepik)

4. Clarifying exceptions to ‘full-time status’

Any student gets PGWP only if he maintains ‘full-time status’. This means that the student must study as a full-time student each semester. This rule does not apply only to the last semester. If leave has been taken during the course or studies have to be stopped due to any reason (disaster or protest), then its details will have to be presented along with proof. If leave was taken without the permission of the college, it could become a big problem. (Photo- Freepik)

5. Providing sufficient proof of being a student and completing the course

When applying for a work permit, students have to prove that they are studying as a full-time student. For this they have to submit degree, diploma, official letter or transcript. The officials then check through these documents whether the student has studied within the limits of the rules or not. If all the details can be given through one document, then there is no need to provide unnecessary documents. (Photo- Freepik)

6. Accelerated programs can also be provided through PGWP

To get PGWP, the course must be at least 8 months long. The things being taught in this course should also be eligible for PGWP. However, if one completes the course in less time under the accelerated programme, one can still get the PGWP. (Photo- Freepik)

7. PGWP duration may be reduced due to passport

Work permit is given to students for a maximum of 3 years. But sometimes it is issued for a shorter period than this. The reason for this is that the work permit cannot be issued beyond the expiry date of the passport. If the passport expires in 2026, then the work permit may not be issued until 2027. In such a situation, definitely check the expiry date of your passport and renew it if necessary. (Photo- Freepik)

This rule does not apply to students pursuing university degree programmes. (Photo- Freepik)
