Cyber security experts have issued a high alert on the occasion of Valentine’s Day. Criminals are not only playing with your emotions, but also with your digital wallet. Through social engineering, these fraudsters lay such traps that even educated people fall into their trap. Let us know about the dangers that can spoil your love celebration.
Scammers are making you a victim in these ways
1. Romance Scam: Fraud of fake love
Scammers create attractive profiles on dating apps (Tinder or Bumble). After gaining trust for weeks, they suddenly demand money in the name of medical emergency or flight ticket to meet them.

2. Fake delivery and courier fraud
Suppose you get a message that your Valentine’s surprise gift has arrived, click on this link to confirm the delivery and as soon as you open the link or make a transaction of one rupee in order to get a bargain, your phone gets hacked. So the hacker can clear your account by accessing your passwords.
3. Fake websites with huge discounts
You order expensive branded perfumes or watches after seeing 90 percent discount on them. These sites are created to steal your card details. Which attract customers to buy by showing cheap prices and people get deceived and click on the website.

4. Gift Card and Giveaway Scams
Survey forms are filled in the name of free dinner vouchers or iPhone giveaways. In this, your personal information (name, address, Aadhaar) is taken, which is later used for banking fraud.
Follow these golden rules to stay safe
Do not click on unknown links: Never open unknown links received on WhatsApp or email. This is the most vicious way of cheating by hackers.
Do not disclose OTP: Bank or any real company never asks you for OTP on call. Therefore, if you receive any such call, immediately complain and block the number.
Website check: Before purchasing from any site, check whether its URL contains ‘https://’ and padlock symbol or not.
Caution in payment: Avoid making UPI or bank transfer to an unknown person, especially if he suddenly makes an excuse of some crisis.
