The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of Confident Group Chairman CJ Roy has not found any such evidence so far. This should prove that the Income Tax Department officials had harassed or pressurized him. The investigation has reached its final stages and according to initial findings, Roy was suffering from severe business stress, which could reportedly be the main reason for the suicide.
Income tax officials were not questioned
The SIT has clarified that Roy, who shot himself in his office in Bangalore on January 31, was not interrogated by the Income Tax officials that day. The investigation has so far not found any solid basis to indicate that the tax authorities have put undue pressure on him. According to sources, no evidence has been found of any threat or coercive pressure by the Income Tax officials. Roy appeared to be worried about other unresolved issues.
was taking treatment for mental stress
Police are also investigating why Roy had sought treatment for mental stress in recent months. To understand his mental condition, the SIT has recorded the statements of three close friends of Kochi, with whom he had long phone conversations in the days before his death. It is reported that he had personal, not business, relations with these friends.
Questioning YouTubers and business partners
As part of the investigation, information has also been sought from two YouTubers who had prepared promotional material for the Confident Group. Earlier, statements of some business partners of the company have also been recorded.
due diligence on financial transactions
The police are now preparing for a detailed investigation into Roy’s financial transactions. There will be a comprehensive review of the audit documents of their companies. Private auditors are appointed to analyze financial transactions. Officials are trying to find out whether disruption in fund flows, regulatory scrutiny or investor pressure was the reason for their rising stress.
Roy was known for luxury lifestyle
Roy was known for his lavish lifestyle, which included a collection of luxury cars in Dubai. In the last few months, investigation into his financial transactions had intensified. Meanwhile, the company clarified last week that work has started on all its project sites and the situation is normal regarding commitments to flat buyers.
