Mohammad Nabi clashed in the field Mahabharata over wristband
Afghanistan needed 188 runs to win and the match was at its most critical. As soon as Lungi Ngidi came to bowl at the beginning of the 14th over, Mohammad Nabi, who was on strike, stopped him midway. Nabi argued that Ngidi was not able to see the ball properly because of the bright yellow wristband he had tied on his wrist. Nabi believed that the color of the wristband was blending with the ball, due to which it was becoming difficult to play the shot.
Heated debate between umpire and prophet
Nabi appeared quite aggressive over the issue and demanded the umpires to remove Ngidi’s wristband. However, the umpires did not fully accept Nabi’s argument. A heated conversation continued between the prophet and the umpires for a long time. During this time, South African players also jumped into this debate and Nabi also had a verbal war with the South African players. Seeing the situation worsening, captain Aiden Markram had to intervene and tried to calm Nabi down. The game finally restarted on the orders of the umpires, but Ngidi did not remove the wristband.
Nabi was under pressure after Gurbaz’s wicket
The reason behind Nabi’s anger was not only the wristband but also the pressure of the match situation. Chasing the huge target of 188 runs, Afghanistan made a stormy start and scored 50 runs in just 4 overs without losing any wicket. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz had raised hopes of victory by playing a blazing inning of 84 runs in 42 balls. But Afghanistan suddenly came on the backfoot due to the fall of two big wickets including that of Gurbaz in the 13th over. Nabi knew that one more wicket from here could take the match out of his hands, so he did not want to take any risk of losing concentration.
