Which people should not buy electric cars? Know this important thing

Buying an electric car (EV) has become a big trend today. Due to low running cost, great features and good for the environment, people are preferring to buy electric cars instead of petrol and diesel. But, is an electric car right for everyone? The answer is, no. If you are also planning to buy an EV, then wait. Read the points given below carefully, because for these people an electric car can become a headache and not a profitable deal.

1. Those who have less daily running

Electric cars are much more expensive than petrol cars. If you use the car only once or twice a week or for very short distances (10-20 KM daily), then buying an EV may be a loss-making deal for you. To bridge the gap between the high price of an EV and the low price of a petrol car, you will have to drive it a lot. Petrol or hybrid cars are better for those who use the car less.

2. Those who do not have charging space at home

The biggest advantage of an electric car is when you can charge it at home. If you live in an apartment or house where there is no parking space or no facility to install a charging point, then EV will become a problem for you. Going to a public fast charger every time can not only be costly, but it also wastes a lot of time. To charge the car, you will have to leave your important work and wait for the car to charge.

3. Those who frequently travel to rural areas

If your work is such that you have to go on long trips suddenly or you frequently visit villages and remote areas, then an EV may not be right for you. A big problem in the long run will be the range. In India, the infrastructure of charging stations on national highways and especially in rural areas is still not good. The fear of running out of battery midway and waiting for hours for charging can bother you.

4. Those looking for good resale value

If you like to replace your car with a new one every 3-4 years, then EV is not right for you. The resale value of electric cars is currently much lower than petrol cars. The biggest reason is battery life. People are often hesitant to buy a 5-7 year old EV because they fear the huge cost of battery replacement (which can be up to 40-50% of the car’s price).

5. Those who live in rented house

It is difficult to prepare charging infrastructure even for those living in rented houses. Landlords often do not allow drilling holes in the wall for charging setup or installing a separate electricity meter. Shifting the charging setup in case of frequent house changes is also an expensive task.
