Team India had to face penalty

This incident happened in the 17th over of Afghanistan’s innings. In this over, Team India’s fast bowler Deepesh Devendran was left low after a ball bounced, which Indian wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu failed to catch. The ball passed between Kundu’s legs and hit the helmet kept on the ground behind him. According to the rules of cricket, if the ball hits the helmet of a fielder kept on the field during the match, then the batting team is given 5 penalty runs.

What do MCC rules say?

According to Article 28.3.2 of the MCC, if the ball hits the helmet of a fielding player, the umpire awards five penalty runs to the batting team. The rule reads, ‘All runs scored by the batsmen before the collision with the helmet will be counted as well as the runs which were being scored at that time if the batsman had crossed the crease by the time of collision with the helmet.’

Afghanistan scored 310 runs

Talking about the match, Afghanistan team has scored 310 runs on the board. Faisal Shinozada played an inning of 110 runs for Afghanistan. Whereas Uzairullah scored unbeaten 101 runs. The bowlers of the Indian team mostly looked troubled and Deepesh Devendran and Kanishk Chauhan were the only two bowlers who took 2 wickets each.
